In addition to fire suppression and public education, the DRFD operates two ambulances which provide 24 hour emergency care. These ambulances are staffed by a paramedical and an EMT. Inside the ambulance many life saving procedures can be performed while enroute to the hospital.
The Symbol of Emergency Medical Services is the "Star of Life". The Star of Life contains six points and a staff in the middle of the symbol. Each point represents a component of care.
