The typical duties/skills of a paramedic include (but not be limited to) to following:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are certifications that go beyond CPR for assisting those who are experiencing cardiac arrest
Cardiac monitoring with standard 3-lead and 12-lead interpretation
Manual defibrillation to revive the beating of a stopped heart and use of external monitor to stimulate a heart to beat
Emergency critical care for medical, cardiac and general illnesses to include initiation of IV therapy, medication administration, treatment of shock and severe, life-threatening allergic reaction
Advanced airway procedures to include endotracheal intubation and needle cricothyrotomy to open airways if needed
Thoracic needle decompression to assist with a collapsed lung
Emergency childbirth procedures and infant resuscitation
Transporting patients receiving IV medication
Adult and pediatric interosseous needle insertion
Any skills or procedures set forth in the Department of Transportation curriculum for paramedics
